I’ve started working towards my goal… Now what?

If you have started to go after your goal, great work! You are doing the thing. 🙂

There are times where you might find yourself needing some extra motivation. If you’re wondering, “How do you sustain your steady growth towards your goal?” — you’ve come to the right place.

Here are ways to keep your momentum while achieving your goals:

  • Celebrate the small wins
  • Remember your why
  • Review your progress
  • Reach out to a mentor or friend

Celebrate the Small Wins

All that you’re doing counts for something. Every action you take towards your goal takes you one step closer to achieving it. Remember to celebrate the small wins just as you would the big ones.

For example, if your goal is to run a mile without stopping, then a small win would be going for a walk 5x a week for 30 minutes.

You can celebrate by simply taking a moment to recognize and thank yourself for making progress.

Remember Your Why

Remind yourself why you wanted to achieve your goal. Choosing a reason that aligns and resonates with you deeply is important to help keep you motivated. Ultimately, you gotta do it for yourself.

Review Your Progress

Looking back on the work you’ve already done can help motivate you to keep moving forward. When you start, you’re already a lot further than when the goal was just a thought.

Reviewing your progress can also help keep you on track towards your goal. Maybe you’ve realized that a few steps or milestones aren’t necessary, or maybe you’ve realized that a lot more steps go into a task. You can edit your task list or milestones accordingly when you review.

Reach Out

I can completely understand wanting to keep your goals to yourself. In the past, I did not confide in anyone about my goals out of fear. I was fearful that I would not achieve them. I was fearful that I would be judged or discouraged.

As I have grown, I have realized that there are times where I need and want support. I have been able to achieve a lot more with people to lean on. Sometimes I simply need an encouraging text message or other times I need someone to bounce ideas off of.

Reaching out to a person that you trust and who knows about your goals can push you to keep going. My partner keeps me accountable with simple reminders of what I want to achieve. I have been able to accomplish significantly more with support.
